The PETAR (Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto do Ribeira) is a brazilian National Park situated on the foothills of the “Serra do Mar” mountain range , in the south of São Paulo State, BRAZIL, close to the cities of Apiaí and Iporanga, with an area of 35 hectares (86,5 acres), it has a priceless commodity on flora, fauna and archeology-paleontology.
PETAR National Park has the most preserved Mata Atlântica (a vast region of lush rainforest which follows coastlines and mountain ranges), sheltering untouched forests, valleys, waterfalls of crystal clear waters, rivers and mountains, in addition to over 300 caves. PETAR was founded in 1958 and is administered by Instituto Florestal (Forest Research Institute) which looks after the established infrastructure. (http://iflorestsp.br/)
